My Life's Work

[September 2025] Its amazing how quickly the time has passed and on the one hand I'm delighted that I've posted 25 articles into the blog. In addition, I've also created the online shop and other social media means of "getting my message out there". Still plenty of Militia posts to create and also lots happening on the Family History and Genealogy fronts. Family History has seen some more progress on "our family" and links to both Shetland and Balmoral (yes, that Balmoral). Local History has seen an additional link up with a lady in New Zealand. She has ancestors buried at Farnell and has asked me to look into that for her.
[January 2024] I suppose we all reach a stage in our lives when we look back and think "What have I done with my life?" and all the other questions that might go along with that. For me, I think my life has had 3 main facets: firstly, a lifelong interest in Family History and Genealogy since my grandmother first told me about "a skeleton in the family cupboard"; secondly, a full 22 year military career and I loved (almost) every minute of it; thirdly, leaving the military and embarking on a second professional career, as a Further Education lecturer - my first degree is in Networked Computing from Napier University complimented by my Post Graduate studies in Online Learning. This site, then, is a sum of my reflections in all these area's as I try to make sense of my life and I offer some specialist services along the way.
